As a child, I was captivated by my father's electric razor—an iconic Micron razor from Braun, designed by Dieter Rams and his team in the 1970s. Every detail, from the texture of the grip to the feel of the leather case, left a lasting impression on me.
Years later, during a fad on Dribbble to incorporate real-world objects into iOS icons, I decided to recreate the Micron Razor. What began as a simple icon project evolved into a full-fledged app, translating the physical into the digital realm. This endeavor ignited a passion for skeuomorphism—the art of replicating real-world tangibility in digital design. I pushed the boundaries of this concept, exploring how physical forms could be brought to life through code and interactivity.
The Rams' Razor app aimed to recreate the tactile experience of the Micron razor. From the push and 'click' of the power switch to the subtle vibrations and sounds, every interaction was designed to evoke the essence of the physical razor. Inspired by the soft leather case of the Micron, the app featured an animated boot-up sequence. The case gracefully slid away, revealing the razor beneath.
Rams' Razor was a tribute to timeless design and a testament to the enduring impact of Dieter Rams' philosophy. Through this project, I sought to blend nostalgia with modern digital experiences, bridging the gap between the physical and digital worlds. The result? Rams' Razor was deemed "too useless" by Apple was rejected for the app store.
